Office Web Apps

I know its been mentioned a couple of times in the past, but has anyone managed to decipher the licensing for Office Web Apps?

 

We're installing Sharepoint 2010 for our web facing intranet, and this looks like a good option. However we only have Office 2007/2010 licenses bought under the Select agreement and I'm guessing they're no use for this. We don't have a Schools Agreement either.

 

I can't download and evaluation copy either so no idea how well it integrates with SP2010. I wish MS would sort their licensing out!

 

I can see we'll end up promoting Open Office as the client-side software, or heading down the google apps route which makes you wonder why MS make it so difficult!

AFAIK, Office Web Apps come under your Sharepoint Licencing, and I think you need to be Enterprise to have the full functionality. Speak to your reseller who will definately be able to confirm.

Office web apps should even install under Sharepoint foundation, the way I understood it was if they were liscenced to use it at school then they could use Office web apps at home, not 100% on how that applies to pupils though but staff would be fine.

This is where the confusion with MS licensing comes in. With 700 copies of Office 2007/2010 inschool we can't cover the 2000 students and staff. So ideally I would like the Web Apps for the Sharepoint for all users regardless of the the schools licenses.
