themightymrp Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I am wanting to move more of our school machines onto Windows 7. Currently we only have 3!!! However I am having problems when running 7 on laptops. When the laptops resume from sleep mode (which staff will do when carrying them between rooms), most of the time I can't unlock them as I get a message stating it can't find a Domain Logon Server. Has anybody else had this issue or know how to fix it? I have tried disabling power management features on the wireless card but this doesn't seem to have fixed anything. The only way I can get around it at the moment is to reboot the laptop Any help is appreciated PS - I don't have the same issue on a desktop machine
Steve21 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Tried unchecking "require login after wake from sleep" in power options? Not sure if you got wireless to disable on sleep, but if it disables, it won't see network to relog on I guess. Steve
themightymrp Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 I prefer to have the machines locked on resume for security reasons. I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Incidentally, I have also disabled the 'Allow windows to disable this device to save power' option in device manager.

themightymrp Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 OK, the laptop resumes fine but takes an age (20 - 30 seconds +) to find the wireless network and connect again. Is there a way to speed that up? EDIT : just seen your reply - where do I find fast reconnect?
m25man Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I get something like this on my Samsung R580, the wireless driver doesnt come back to life until windows is well up and running so it's a late starting driver... Not a problem for me as my domain login is cached and it allows me to login as normal unless of course I want to log in with a different profile. I think you may need to disable the "Turn off this device to save power" option but then the device will probably overheat and go flat if left unpowered. (* somebody beat me on that one..) Worth a try though at least you will know where to start from to resolve it... Do you have a Wait for Network policy element in place?

I ask as I have had issues with laptop builds where we forgot to include the manufacturers "Soft Switch" drivers (those buttons you never really use but turn stuff on/off like wireless cards etc) Adding the switch/button drivers suddenly solved the wireless switching issues... 1

I've had it installed on my office machine since launch date and love it! I'm just concerned that I have an Admin account and users with less privelages may have more problems than I'm seeing.

Although it was before my time here, I know our school was one of the first to go full Win7 in our area. And it all seems to be running fine. Only things I know there have been a few issues with is old programs/printers etc, that don't work with Win7, but then that's life nowadays Steve
ZeroHour Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Just a quick thought, have you tried it with sp1 as there were some resume issues fixed pre sp1 with hotfixes and I am sure they were rolled into sp1.

Galabar Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I'm having the same issue. After returning from sleep, it takes a long time (30+ seconds) to reconnect to my router. This has been an issue with 2 different routers. I have the latest updates from Microsoft.
