bmittleider Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I have been asked to dual boot our MacBooks with OS X 10.6 and Windows 7. Independently I can deploy OS X using DeployStudio and Windows 7 using either WDS or MDT. My hurdle comes with trying to get into MDT LiteTouch from the Mac. I have a DVD of LiteTouch that I can boot to and run and it boots into MDT and works as expected from there. I need to boot that cd from the network as I don't want to load a cd into 100+ MacBooks. Is there any way to netboot that iso of the MDT LiteTouch?
tarquel Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Couldn't you capture that ISO as a boot wim and add it into WDS somehow as a boot image? [just thinking out loud there, being I dont use WDS natively] Ta.
plexer Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I boot several iso's from my wds/mdt server. The wds first boot image has been replaced with a syslinux setup. Ben
tarquel Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Saw you use that in another thread.... might give that a go myself. I'm sure the techies here could benefit from it most likely, although (without looking into it), I'd need it in a Press F12 to initialise the menu [like the current boot into WDS/SCCM does].
bmittleider Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 I guess I didn't make my question clear enough. I need to boot a MacBook (or any Intel Mac) but Macs don't do PXE. I can boot the LiteTouch from a CD on the Mac so I was trying to find a way to boot that CD from the network on the Mac. PC's work fine and I don't have any problems there.
tarquel Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 if the Mac's hardware doesnt do PXE, then i dont see how you can aka ur stuck to using a CD or USB pen. Does its BIOS have no options in the network card area to do PXE booting? Theres a setting Dell's have called Boot w/ImageServer instead of PXE, but not sure what thats about [aka havent needed to find out ]. Puzzling stuff....
themightymrp Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Not sure if this will help but there might be something you can mess about with: Getting a Mac to PXE boot from Citrix Provisioning Server Ignoring the Citrix part, this might work

Tarquel that's how it works for us to select network boot on some machines, if the machine is set to always boot from the network first I use a default option which defaults to boot the hard disk after a configurable timeout. If Macs don't do pxe then you are a bit stuck. Having a quick look at that thread looks possible as you are in effect loading up a pxe bootable disk like we had to do in the old days when pxe wasn't a function of the nic. Ben
