drk84 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Hi, We are looking at getting a new MIS in place. Currently it is old school and we have Hebron. I was wondering if you lot could help me out at what options to take and costs aswell. I have looked at SIMS and CMIS and also looked at ScholarPack but not sure. Are there any other systems you would recommend and what is the best system to go for? Thanks in advance
jinnantonnixx Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 You'll probably get a lot of different answers as each system has its fans and anti-fans. With MIS systems, once you commit, it's such a monumental task to change that few people change. Some have gone from SIMS to CMIS (and back) so these are probably good people to try and track down as they can draw valid compairsons. As it happens, I know SIMS fairly well; I've been looking after the back-end since it was Foxpro exes in the mid '90s. It does mean though that I can't comment on other systems as I don't know anything about them. As you're starting with a blank sheet, I'd seriously give ScholarPack a try (nothing to lose except a bit of time) perhaps in parallel with other paid-for systems you're considering.

ShorehamGeek Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 If you've got Hebron now, I'd have a look at their latest offering Engage. The web portal is very useful (all our attendance and school reports are completed via the portal - no software to install on the majority of client PCs!).

Perhaps you ought to stop using web based facilities that are served by open source projects then, or are you laughing at the notion that Capita could be philanthropic?

Therefore I would have to object to Capita sponsoring this Forum. Which is actually true - I would! So please do not again mis-read the intentions behind what I post! I have asked you not to do this in the past! There should be no advertising in this Forum by MIS providers. It could be interpreted that Edugeek are supporting that MIS! And I'm sorry, but I didn't read anywhere in your posts that you were laughing at ScholarPack's sponsorhip of this forum. Your suggestion that this frum be sponsored by a non-MIS supplier can be extrapolated so that every other forum is sponsored by a company with no real interest in getting any advetising out of their invested money. I am sure that Matt understood exactly what I meant. With a bit of luck I might now get rid of those infernal green squares and get some red ones back. I have now had those two for way too long! It happens so often that I now believe it is a deliberate act. I refuse to allow others to change the meanings of the statements I make without responding. My statements need to be read as typed and their meaning should not changed in meaning by other users to suit their own purposes! Edited March 17, 2011 by Sivadam

By that logic you should get onto: Smoothwall, an internet filtering application, which sponsors the Firewall forum. Specops, an OS deployment company, who sponsors the Windows 7 forum. Netsupport, an network and classroom support company, who sponsor the network and classroom management forum. Meru Networks, a networking company, who sponsor the networks forum. Axel Thin Clients, a thin client provider, who sponsor the thin client forum. ... and that's just the ones from the front page who looked vaguely financially interested in the forum they sponsor. Do you detect a pattern here? You got a lot of complaining to do. Or maybe it would be quicker to investigate the point of sponsorship.
