Help - database corrupted 'Unrecognized database format'

One of the admin staff uses an awful piece of software called Private Funds Manager which relies on an access database

For some reason it appears to have become corrupted.

When you try and run the program you get 'Runtime error 3343, Unrecognized database format P:\blah\blah.mdb'

 

If I try and open the database directly I get the message that it needs to be repaired, I click Yes but get 'Unrecognized database format P:\blah\blah.mdb' and then 'the database p:\blah\blah.mdb cant be repaired or is not a Microsoft Office Access database file'

 

Ive tried repairing it from ODBC data sources and get the same.

But I dont know if it applies to us - we havent upgraded our version of Access - and I have NO idea how to accomplish their solution

I could probably find a copy of Visual Studio but after that the instructions dont make sense to me

 

Can anyone help?

The visual studio solution will not apply to you unless you have the source code, which i doubt. Has the company recently sent out an upgrade? have you installed office 2003 / 2007 (not necessarily access)?

 

Do you have a back-up? Your best bet might be to contact the suppliers of the software and see what they say...... We have a few horrible programs that have a similar kind of set up...... Good Luck!

Nope, we have got 2003 installed but we've had it installed for years

Basically on Monday she worked on it fine. Come Tuesday it wouldnt open

 

The only backup Ive got is from November, as I didnt actually think it got used, and whoever set it up, in their wisdom decided to put all the data on our apps drive, which only gets backed up once a term

Have you had a look at the data sources file in the admin tools on her workstation (System DNS tab) to see if the settings are ok. Just a thought

Not just her workstation though, its wherever we run it from.

When I look on my machine the system DSN doesnt have an entry for it, only ones are for Ghost and NetSupport
