X Box MTU settings, Belkin N Router and BT Broadband

Went to help my cousin's son set up his X-Box 360 but ran into a problem when testing the network connection

He has BT Broadband connected to a Belkin Wireless N Router and gets a fair consistent 6 Mb/s connection which is quite excellent for Norfolk, but when the console tests the connection to X-Box Live we get an error about the MTU not being high enough.

I've set the MTU on the router at various different levels from 1364 (the setting that the x box wants as the lowest) all the way up to 1500 (maximum).

I don't really fancy setting it at +1 intervals and testing each one so does anyone know what causes this other that the X-Box being another piece of fiddly microsoft tat (sorry but have a PS3 myself and it just works)

Another problem now then as the Belkin router has replaced the home hub. Will try with cable first and see but is it really necessary for x-box to be so restrictive over this (or is there a hack to prevent it)

Sorry to point out the flaming obvious, but did you try resetting the router? My flatmate gets the MTU error on his XBox (interestingly, I don't, he has the slimline XBox I have an old 15gb with original wireless adaptor...) and resetting the router fixes it

I reset the router about half a dozen time after each change of the mtu. This is an older 15Gb model too and have 2 wireless adapters giving same result
