theeldergeek Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Weird one. XP SP3, shortcuts created for folders are not working, regardless of where the shortcut is, i.e. desktop or in the folder where the target folder is. Other shortcuts to files or programs work fine. I have tried the various methods of creating a shortcut, right click > drag > create shortcut, the shortcut wizard etc. The shortcut icon is there, but when double clicked, nothing happens - that is, it works the very first time after the OS has started, but then stops working. It then works again if the OS is restarted. I have tried the Doug Knox registry fix for .lnk issues, but that hasn't cured the problem. Any ideas?
sukh Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 (edited) Hi 1.Please log on another domain user, does the problem still occur? 2. Please log on a local user, does the problem still occur? 3. Please log on the affected user in other XP client, does the problem still occur? If the problem doesn’t occur, we may try to rename the old profile of the affected user and re-logon the user. See if the problem still occur. 4. Please go back to Doug Knox site and try the "Folder Associattion Fix". Regards Sukh Edited February 27, 2011 by sukh
theeldergeek Posted February 27, 2011 Author Posted February 27, 2011 Hi 1.Please log on another domain user Apologies, should have mentioned this is only happening on a stand-alone machine, no domain, roaming profiles etc involved. Will try logging in as another user though as hadn't thought local profile could be corrupt.
sukh Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Hi Please let me know how you get along. Regards Sukh
