Just changed my internet router to a Netgear N300 dual band which so far works fine and was easy to set up however I dont seem to be able to see the 5Ghz SSID which is set up on it (yes check its turned on, light on front). Can see and connect to the 2.4Ghz connection but not the 5? Using a Samsung NB30 netbook to connect and checked it is n compatible and updated the driver but still no show. Anyone got any ideas?

Not quite solved it but just set it to 300Mbps at 2.4Ghz and it now gives a better connection that I've had before so thats OK. But the wireless utility on the netbook says it connects at g/n now. Think its more of a misunderstanding on my part, netbook does support n but obviously not at 5Ghz only at 2.4Ghz. Suppose will have to be happy with that, if I get problems with interference suppose I would just have to get an adaptor that supports n at 5ghz or have I got this all wrong, must go to bed now!

Your assumption is correct, N utilises a 40mhz bandwidth on either 2.4 or 5 Ghz

It can also use both bands if your equipment supports it, this requires Dual Band, Dual Radios

Your net book supports g/n so that's 2.4ghz only.

If you have non N equipment using the same AP the AP will drop back into g mode, with WPA2 enabled throughput is unlikely to reach much more than 30 Mbps

To reach the max speeds available you need all N equipment and no local sources of interference.
