MaXiM Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 I'm going to upgrade my domain from Windows 2003 r2 to 2008 r2 Will doing this have any adverse effect with the Exchange Server that is running on the current domain ? Just wondering if I need to worry about that or not.
SYNACK Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Not unless your upgrading the erver running exchange to, exchange 2003 won't run on server 2008.

MaXiM Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 The solution turned out to be that fact that I was a domain admin and there is an inherit permissions check box that needed to be unchecked. I just removed myself from the domain admin group and sync went ok.. once the sync had completed I then added myself back into the domain admins group.
TheScarfedOne Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 really a bit of a "ditto" to the above. Running Exchange 2007/2010 on Server 2008 / R2 domains or upgrading the functional level of the domain should have no impact. However, I did find that some of the search and powershell cmdlets didnt work after, so just to be sure, run a /preparead from your Exchange media. Makes sure the Schema extensions are still there. secondly, i dont recommend doing an in-place upgrade to the os on which Exchange is installed. Prepare a new server with the desired os, install exchange, move mailboxes etc and rebuild/upgrade server (note - make sure you uninstall exchange first!).
