What's this facebook stuff all about?

Starting to get emails from facebook friends as follows:

 

"I've just seen who CREEPS around my pics the most here on Facebook! You can see who creeps around your profile too"

 

Seems that when I go into facebook, it starts sending out to my friends! Luckily, I don't have many.

Yeah, one of your friends has accepted a third party app which allows them access to all their friends basic details including your email address.

It then posts a post to their wall, their friends walls and emails others.

 

The third party apps can't actually access that kind of info so it will most likely look at who has posted/liked something on their wall and then throw some others in for fun.

 

They get quite annoying after a while. But as it's not breaking any facebook, they won't fo anything.

This sort of thing crops up on SunBelt Blog a lot. I suggest reviewing your privacy settings and disabling any rogue FaceBook Applications that have just installed themselves in your profile.

 

Such applications tend to be used to propagate malware and various survey scams without your knowledge or consent to your friends, relying on them trusting the link as it is from a friend. Odds are it is doing something naughty in the background and should be reported to FaceBook. Their Apps are far from considered safe these days but you can't virus scan them!

One of teachers clicked the button and her friends started getting emails. I sent out a group email telling them how to delete the App fro facebook and I've just received a reply from one teacher asking if she has to do it because she doesn't have a facebook account! I've told her I will give her a gold merit tomorrow.
