I have a conference coming up next month which there would be 200+ users. Most of the traffic would be on a local network (teach children how to blog using WordPress). I'm thinking of 10 2.4 ghz 802.11g/n access points distribute across the room (different ch and low tx power) and connected to a Gigabit switch with the same SSID. Would that be enough and working ?

200 users in one room? This is going to be an interesting thread...

Based upon my own experience even on the lowest power settings your going to struggle using traditional cell based coverage.

This one scenario where I'd probably be looking at blanket technology rather than cell based.

I have however managed 180 Korean Press Users using just 3 x Dual Band radios

No point in bothering with N or MIMo with 200 users bringing their own equipment any AP will fall back into legacy mode anyway.

Dual band dual radio 3 radios,

The usual channels

Hopefully any Macs will automatically opt for the 5ghz option

This setup worked well enough for my event but the hardest part was managing the abuse of the system!

Out of the 180 guests more than 50% were either riddled with viruses or using BitTorrent and Limewire apps!

:welcome: to the 'Geek.

Have you already got the kit you need?

Worth getting in touch with Net-Ctrl about the Ruckus Kit. They can do a test for you, and give you a decent solution. Plus you might get to talk to the lovely Aggy ;)

I've heard these are really good - expensive though. where abouts in the country are you there is a local school near me in sussex which have them. They are designed for things like this and the largest ones have upto 16 1gbs copper inputs. (i think)

Hello Thailand. Our systems says you are spoofing your IP address and this may indicate a 'dodgy' post. Can you confim your location and more relevantly, what make/model of AP's you plan to delpoy?

I posted this thread from Thailand.

Xirrus XN4 costs 260,000 Baht in Thailand. (6500 euro).

Most of the access points would be Cisco Aironet 1100.

Are your 1100's just b/g or are they 1130's a/b/g?

Are they LWAPP or fat AP's

If they are LWAPP what controller do you have and what management OS version are you running?

If you are uncertain about any of the above we may have a challenge helping you.

I'm not quite sure yet whether its 1100 or 1130, so I'll come back and update the info soon, and I don't think they gonna give me a controller for APs.

This is the network that I have thought. Haproxy for distribution the load to webservers (share session with memcached and content with NFS) and 1 gateway for DNS, DHCP and Proxy. However, I'm not quite sure with the spec that I needed for the gateway (Zentyal).

I have no real experience in these things, this is the first time.
