Hello All,

We use Alice here in our library and its always going wrong. Now its giving me an error message when we try to use the inquiry function. The message says...

Fatal CDB Error

An error has occured in a CDB object

Method : AttachIndex

Error : -265

File :

Record : 0

There is nothing in the event logs to suggest anything wrong. I have restarted the server its located on.

Does anyone have any ideas what this is all about.

Cant phone support because we stopped paying for it. :(

Thanks

James

Cannot help with the error I'm affraid, but I do know that the software has been upgraded and rename Oliver, a few years ago now. This could mean that an update (windows) or something has not helped matters?

Should have used Bing :), first hit on "alice cdb error" got me to this site, which may be useful: Alice for Windows

The CDB error code guide there tells me that -265 means

"ERROR – table not open"

Tried to use a table object with a table that is not opened yet.

Not that this gets you much further, I suspect... :S

yeah, We would ideally have upgraded to oliver but the school is being rebuilt though BSF and that means no spending!!

Oliver = evil! we had alice and went oliver, I would def search on edugeek for other and my feelings about oliver but I would avoid like the plague.

I think the decision is out of our hands now because of the BSF thing. If what you say is correct ZH, we may get luck and they will choose something else to use in the library.

We are still on Alice and staying on Alice. We looked at Oliver but were unable to come to a reason to change. Alice is still supported by Softlink

I used to get loads of these errors and found the following would fix this.

Shutdown Alice and run the following commands on the server

del Path_To_Alice\OASIS\SHUTDOWN.*

del Path_To_Alice\OASIS\LOASIS\*.X*

ren Path_To_Alice\OASIS\FLAG.* FLAG.STA

cd /d Path_To_Alice\Alice\OASIS

AfW.exe

If this works you can simply create a batch file from it.

Ok, will this delete anything that i dont want it to? Do you know exactly what the problem is??

No it won't delete anything important. Once run and back into Alice just perform a shutdown as normal on the shutdown machine.

This was the process I was told to run many a time when speaking to support and was the fix for pretty much any error I received so eventually stopped calling them every time and made it into a batch file.

I don't know exactly what the error means but support were never forthcoming with an explanation.

Make sure you run it on the server though
