Carter Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 We have been using Faronics DeepFreeze for a number of years now & I was wondering if there is a freeware product out there for Mac or perhaps a setup we can implement rather than using DeepFreeze. Anyone else use DeepFreeze for Mac?
featured_spectre Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 (edited) Carter if I remember rightly there is a program for Mac called time machine...I think Apple gave it away as a freebie, but I cannot be sure. I am on my phone atm so cant do a search for you I'm afraid. *edit* http://www.apple.com/uk/findouthow/mac/#timemachinebasics Edited January 19, 2011 by featured_spectre proper link inserted
Carter Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 Time Machine is for Backups not freezing the state of the computer. We have 300+ Macs here & we use Faronics Deep Freeze to freeze the computers. Students can login and no matter what they install, change, delete etc. once the computer restarts the computer is back to scratch as if nothing changed. The computers are all set to shutdown for the night then back on in the AM & they are at a fresh state for whomever logs in. Thanks for the info though,
Carter Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 Sorry I could be of no use then! All good, thanks for trying though
Arthur Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 For free, I think the closest you are going to get to DeepFreeze is to use the guest account.
superfletch Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I've had a good look and I can't find one. If you have a disk imaging program is there a way to schedule it nightly?
HodgeHi Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 (edited) NetBoot Possibly. NetBoot and NetInstall are 2 separate things. You create a NetInstall set to boot from and start an installation or restore process of the OS. NetBoot allows you to boot into an OS as if you were using it. Upon restart the machine reboots again off the network but all changes from the last session are lost. This is part of the NetBoot service in OS X Server.
