iPhone USB connection

The girlfriend has just bought a Sony BDP S370 Blueray Player. When I connected a Flash Drive, (Recently lost) Nano an my HTC Desire it recognised them and will play music and show photos from each. When i connect her iPhone it is not recognised.

 

I have no experience of iPhone and she is not technical, but on my Desire there is a 'USB Connection Type' option. I'm guessing this is the problem with the phone and this setting needs changing........ how do I do this?

Someone will be along to correct me I am sure but I don't think the iPhone has this setting or option. You can't just hook it up to something and get at the data/pics/tunes/etc on it.

I assume that, like iPods, you'll need iTunes to do anything with it.

I'm not convinced, it doesn't even recognise the iPhone as a device, whereas it did the Nano and Desire. The Sony software then takes over and plays the music or images and even uses the music as background.

I've just brought the BDP-S570, very impressed with it! I have all my music on a NAS box but I'll try plugging my iphone in tonight see what happens

It's a great device from what we have seen so far, I'm wiring it all up tonight with the TV, drill is in the boot.....

I have only experienced iPods, but I seem to remember that until you install iTunes (which installs the device drivers) you got nothing with those too.

I do know she has iTunes on the iPhone

Looks like it's a no without using an app to turn it into the equivalent of a usb mass storage device but then the itunes library etc... on the phone would not be accessible.

It played the Nano as a Mass storage rather than as a media player, so that might work.

I think you will probably find that this is the same problem as when you plug an iPhone / iTouch into an Xbox 360. These devices store data very differently from other iPods, on an xbox you can plug in a nano / classic / shuffle etc and play your files straight away as though it were a USB stick. An iTouch or iPhone is not supported due to the storage format.

Didn’t there use to be an option “manual device” or “storage device” something like that, on the first page of the device in itunes which allows usb memory stick operation. This Was ages ago though.
