Use Ipod with new laptop? Help!

Daughter has an Ipod Touch which she has used with her old laptop, but now she has a new laptop with Itunes installed on it. The Ipod is sync'd up with her old laptop. How does she transfer everything to her new laptop, is it just a case of plugging it in and letting it sync to the new laptop. She did try using it with her new laptop and got in a bit of a 'pickle' saying it had lost some of her songs. Connected it back to her old laptop and added what ever I could find music wise on the laptop to the Ipod by sycing it. So how should she transfer it all so she can just use the new laptop with her Ipod? Whats all this authorise/de-authorise PC etc on the Itunes menus? Sorry if these seem inane questions but I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to Ipods etc and daughter does not help by not letting me help as 'I dont know' when its all working but when its not 'she does not know how it all works'!

Thanks but the first 'Points to note' says "This document does not apply to iPod touch" which she has.

Just backup your music\apps to DVD on the old laptop (using iTunes), de-authorise it and put it on the new one. Job jobbed. It really is quite easy.

in the past i have just copied the my music folder and everything in it from the old laptop to the new one. Always has worked for me!!

Yeah you need to copy the music from the old to new as mentioned above. Ipods can only sync one way (without extra software) so you always need to move the music to the computer then set it up to sync with the new one
