Is this normal?

Hi,

 

I had a 2003 test domain with a win 7 test machine. I did a fresh install of 2008R2 using the same domain name as the 2003 and turned of the 2003 server.

 

My Win7 test machine works on the new 2008R2 domain with out me having to remove it from the old domain and adding it to the new domain.

 

Is this a new feature as I would always have to do the workgroup / domain thing with 2003.

 

If so this is a handy feature.

Well you said you used the same domain name as the 2003 server... So they would have been the same domain... Although i'm presuming you promoted the 2008R2 to a DC.... Which is normal.... although you should have adprep /forestprep and adprep /domainprep to atleast upgrade the schema
