danIT Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 A cheeky science teacher has lost his password for a protected sheet, any chance anyone knows of free software which will upprotect the sheet or recover the password. Ive done this before by opening up a excel spredsheet with some VB code in it which removes protection from the next spreadsheet you open? any ideas?

CyberNerd Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 I recall a news article from a couple of years back when it became apparent that MSOffice documents could be edited with a hex editor to change the passwords, once the document had been edited the password could then be changed back using the hex editor. Unscrupulous companies were reportedly altering quotes from other companies. MS's response was along the lines of ' the password function shouldn't be used for security' although I have no idea whether the vulnerability was fixed.
