Exchange 2010 Server Spec

Hi Guys,

 

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on speccing a server for a Windows Server Enterprise 2008 R2 / Exchange 2010 Standard set-up.

 

We have about 150 mailboxes in use, potentially adding about 50-75 new ones per year. Mailbox database size is currently 250GBish. The server needs to provide all roles, and also OCS (however this will be on a separate VM - I'll be using ESXi). OWA is heavily used, and there will be an active/standby configuration with a server on another site.

 

We're looking to go down the HP ProLiant DL385 G7 route, as that's what we've used in the past.

That's a small amount of mailboxes so any server will do really. 8gb of Ram should do it.

 

I wouldn't be buying any new hardware personally for hosting email when Live@edu and Gmail for education are gaining huge popularity.

 

I'll be moving to that instead of Exchange 2010 after evaluating them both for the last couple of months.

i'm running my 2010 server with 200 mailboxes as a vm with around 10 other vms, on a dl380 g6. dual quad., 32gb ish RAM (the exchange VM has 4-8gb can't remember exactly)
