Installing software updates i.e java as a standard user

I am running windows 7 in a windows server 2008 domain. I have an issue with Windows 7. If an update needs to be applied ie java update, adobe or flash update; a standard user will be prompted for a local admin username and password. Is there a way of installing these common updates as a standard user?

In a word: no.

 

The inability to install updates is the case with every version of Windows from 2000 onwards - though before Vista, standard users would just get an 'access denied' message instead of a username and password prompt.

 

The solution many of us here use is to ensure that the update prompts are suppressed, and take care of the updates ourselves using a package management tool. The exact method will depend on your own setup and the bit of software for which you want to turn off update notifications. Have a search through the forums for each individual bit of software and you should find solutions for each of them.

I have a train of thought, there could be possible solution using Task Scheduler, to run the update.exe of the application to be updated using a local admin account. The task could then be set to run say once a month. Haven't tried this yet but will let you know how I get on.
