Obzen Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Hello there people, I am in the process of setting up some mac suites, using 10.6.4 on the clients + server while bound to OD + AD. One thing that is bothering me though is that the students and teachers need to have access to USB drives via desktop, to allow this, one needs to have the finder set to "normal" in WGM > Preferences > Finder. Only problem is that this allows student's to use the Finder and browse network shares and access places where they shouldn't. My question is - is it possible to use the "simple" Finder option while allowing external devices to show on the desktop? Any help is greatly appreciated.
mac_shinobi Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 In WGM there is an option called Media Access - as per attached pdf, you can use this to restrict or allow access to different media types ie USB, Firewire, Optical Drives etcL355774B_WkgrpMgr_TB.pdf
Obzen Posted November 10, 2010 Author Posted November 10, 2010 Thanks for replying, I have this set up so there are no restrictions on the media types, it's that the drives will not show on the desktop if the option for "simple finder" is used in WGM > Finder.
Obzen Posted November 11, 2010 Author Posted November 11, 2010 Does anyone have any insight to this or am I just being a numpty?
mac_shinobi Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 I haven't got OS X Server so can't test so not sure what else to do or try. There is some where , where you can add the mac address of each apple mac client, just wondering if you try this on one mac to see if this makes any difference
