weird behaviour

Hi guys

 

I have this laptop and it bluescreens only in teachers house.

 

When it is back in school it is fine. SO I took exactly same model laptop to her house and this one gives blue screen as well. I took back to my house, school and everywhere else it is fine.

I don't think it is a laptop as 2 did exactly same thing, when they do work fine in different location, could it be some kind of magnetic field? Or maybe power lines.

 

Did anyone had similar problem at all.

You could try starting it up away from the house and then walk towards it. If it falls over then it has to be some form of external interference. I'd start with the wireless hub. If that doesn't do it, then turn off the power at the incomer. That will determine if it's inside or out. Is the house close to powelines, a radio mast? Could it be on a ley line? Do they plug it in to the same wall socket? If so it may be that there is a problem with that socket / the wiring.

Only thing I can think of is if a printer or other usb or similar device is been connected and is causing the BSOD.

 

If nothing is connected and it is still BSOD does it do the same on the teacher's doorstep/driveway? I'm not sure what could be found out with this information, it would just be interesting to find out

No usb devices plugged in, laptop on battery still BSOD. I will try powering off home hub, just to check. We are switching her to different laptop and will try that. I know that my dell (2 month old) works there fine. Her laptop was old samsung.

 

It is very strange. I will try to start laptop away from her home and come in with it as it is ON, but of course she can't use it like, just for experiment. Never seen anything like that before

I don't think its the power line. Maybe virus or attack in that network. Just guess.

My guess would be would be something to do with the wireless, some setting on the hub/router that the Samsung wireless isn't happy about.

u get some people who can crash pcs just by touching them & get shocked off car doors. something to do with static. Could be something like that.

I knew of someone who's laptop used to go haywire when they sat on their sofa - that was a build up of static I think as they had cushions with a lot of nylon content. The moment they got rid of the cushions the problem went. We knew it was static because you got a shock when you stood up and touched the door handle.

Just out of curiosity, what is the model of wireless adapter in it? I seem to remember somebody having a similar issue whereby the wifi set up at the staff members house was causing the wireless adapter to freak out and cause a BSOD...

 

Does the laptop work OK if you turn off the wireless adapter?
