Shutting computers down

Just had an interesting one shown to me that I hadn't seen before.

 

Is anyone using this Sinvise Systems - Projects - Shutdown Timer and what do they think in compared to other apps out there?

If this is what you are talking about we use this:

 

EduGeek Shutdownertron

 

Just send out a little MSI installer and control your settings in group policy. Used it for years and works brill

If you have a look at the site it explains what it does ... just trying to get opinions from folk who are using it in comparison to other offerings (free or otherwise).

we use the fog service to shutdown the machines on our network - after 430pm if nobody has been logged in for 20 mins it shuts the machines down.

 

used to do it via script but that didnt always work correctly

It doesn't mention anything about shutting down across a network.

It is an app you can role out to computers *on your network* to perform timed activities such as those you have listed above. I do know about EduGeek Shutdownertron already ... I have seen the odd mention of it on the infrequent times I have visited this lovely little forum.

 

Now ... we can get pedantic about you saying

Does this allow you to shut down computers on a network?

when you might have meant to ask

Does it allow you to send a shutdown command to computers on a network from a central location?

 

Or you could give it a try tomorrow at work and then give me some feedback.

Well it didnt make that clear on the website.

 

Although i didnt word it well people get the idea of what i was trying to get at.

I just purchased the powerout replacement from Peachworx. Costs a bit of cach but its dead easy to use. Deploy the control to the computers and then set up schemes for them to use.

In my opinion and some years of experience it does not matter which method you use to shutdown machines, from purchased solutions to your own scripted methods or within GP preferences approximately 10% of machines will not shutdown correctly whatever method is used. This is due to machines being on all day and memory leak problems when in use by users causing machines to become unresponsive to any type of control. I used to script it on XP with shutdown.exe and now use GP preferences with win 7.
