Moving iTunes

I need to get my head around iTunes for my daughter.

 

iTunes is installed on our main PC and she now has her own laptop... Needless to say she wants to manage her music, playlists, apps, etc and iPod touch from her laptop. She does have her own iTunes account.

 

Is this the best way to do this? Or do you know better? Are you aware of any gotchas?

1. Update to latest version of iTunes on existing PC

2. Install same version of iTunes on laptop

3. Export to External HDD (It's 500GB - should be big enough!)

4. Import onto laptop

 

It's going to take a while due to the volume of data... and I assume there'll be some authorisation to do for the new laptop.

No need to. Just install the latest version of itunes on the laptop

Just copy the whole itunes folder (in my music) to the external drive, then point itunes to the existing library once it's been copied to the laptops HDD

 

and I assume there'll be some authorisation to do for the new laptop.

 

You may need to authorise the laptop, but it's fairly simple (Store > authorise, then enter the itunes account info IIRC)

should do mate,everythink you have it itunes should all store in the itunes folder

if itunes on the main pc is logged in with her account then you can install it on her laptop and use home sharing to sync them up (for one time copies just disable once done). It works very well for keeping my netbook and PC in tune.

 

Not sure if it does playlists tho, i've never used them just random shuffle my entire library.
