Cached Logons For Staff - How do you do it?

Recommended Posts

All staff laptops are on the domain, however I want them to be able to log on at home with domain username/password and then sync work back over to server. Is this possible? If so how do I go about doing it? Any gotchas?

Windows clients will automatically cache logons (I think it's the last 5 users by default, but I might be wrong), unless you've disabled this via a GPO setting.

Offline files will do the job too - a bit of user training will be required, but it will do the job.

Mine just does it.. as long as the have offlines files to access work on there home drive set the GPO to sync at logon and log off and make sure you get them to understand then need to logoff at the end of the day or they cant access there files at home that they did in school that day.. i have block syncing of Jpg,WMV,AVI,MP3,EXE to speed up the transfer only let them have PDF, DOC,DOCX, PPT,PPTX,XLS,XLSX,Notepad (for smart board.) and so on..

Enable offline files for these laptops by setting it on the ou that they are in or by a filter or group however you wish really.

Once offline files is setup any user that logs on to the laptop will have their files cached for offline access, and everytime any user logs on or off depending on how you've set it it will try and sync every users documents.

Basically they shouldn't let anyone else logon.
