MS Money cannot restore backup

Rather complicated but here goes. Old computer (XP) had MS Money installed for a local user. Before the holiday the location of the backup was changed from the local machine to the network server in preparation for the summer move to all users being on the network. Installation tested to ensure that backup could be restored, which it did.

 

Now new Windows 7 computer, user has a network rather than local account. MS Money installed no problems but it will not restore from the pre-summer backup. I keep getting messages about access permissions or corrupt files. Access to the network share is not an issue, the user has full control from the top of the share. User is also in the Local Administrators group.

 

Question - is it because the previous installation was on XP that the backup file is not recognised by Win 7? Is there a solution please, as the user really does not want to have to recreate all the accounts and settings that Money requires.

 

Just to add that I had previously warned that Money was no longer on the MS supported list and that Win 7 may cause problems.

Have you tried, or are you already running, Microsoft Money Plus Deluxe?

 

I ask because the Sunset version is free. You might be using a version that is no longer supported and moving to a newer version may give you a chance of addressing the problem you are seeing.
