Hi,

I have just updated the firmware of a very out of date HP 2900 ProCurve switch but this appears to have not updated the boot ROM. A notice on HP's website confirms that the (only) firmware image available will update both the boot ROM and the main image but this hasn't been the case.

Any ideas?

Updating the boot rom requires a reboot of the switch. Also, in some cases it requires upgrading versions incrementally. (i.e. 10.1 > 10.5 > 11.0).

The switch has been rebooted many times since this update and is part of the CLI update process anyway. I was thinking that maybe it needed to be done incrementally but there were no other versions available on the HP website and nothing in the destructions to specify this.

Someone mentioned on the hp forums that booting to the secondary image may fix this so will try that when I get a chance.

Reviving old thread rather than starting a new one.

Have been using HP Procurve manager for a while - can update software on various model HP procurve switches ok but rom version does not change to match SW version

e.g. ProCurve J4899B Switch 2650 SW version 10.83 ROM 08.02 - surely ROM version should update?

Have tried SW versions 10.113 10.83 10.74 and manually importing 08.98 from HP site marked as use for intermediary update - all no joy.

Have tried booting to secondary image.

Any ideas?

Boot rom version number is not tied to the software version, but some software updates will include a rom update if it is required. Usual practice for HP is to include the preceding software update in the zip that contained a rom upgrade, if it is required for the current version you have downloaded. Always read the notes though. It can however be many revisions before a boot rom may need an update.

I usually update any threads I've started with what I found for future reference but didn't on this one for some reason. IIRC there simply wasn't an update to the boot ROM at the time and must have been a generic statement in the HP documentation for when an update for this is included.
