Transfer Joomla installation?

We are looking to use Joomla for our website. I installed a test install on the local intranet server to get to grips with it but have ended up doing a fair bit of work on this installation and I wouldn't fancy having to start that again from scratch on a fresh install.

 

Question is, is there a way to install Joomla on the main website and "transfer" all the contents and database content over to it? It doesn't sound simple and I have no idea if it's doable or if alot more needs to be done than just a quick "copy & paste" and "export and import". Any ideas?

Backup using akeeba and then restore to the main server location

Its also a great tool to take a backup before any major updates, releases or major changes etc (or just as a weekley backup in case anything bad happens!)
