Laptop on Work-group Connecting to Server 2008 R2 Domain.

We have just installed a new Server 2008 R2 Domain.

 

We have our staff laptops on a workgroup, and they Connect to mapped drives.. Using the Same username & Password.

 

Well thats what used to happen with our old Server 2003 Domain.

 

But Now when a laptop points to a server it want the username and password in the form of domain\username format.

 

Please Help or ask for more info.

I haven't had to do this for a while and so I don't know if there are any Server 2008 issues at play here. However if you are using net use in a batch file you could try the following...

 

net use x: \\myserver\myshare /user:domain\user

 

Obviously substituting the relevant information. From memory it should prompt the user for a password. If you're feeling brave/wreckless I think you can also include the password on the command line...

 

net use x: \\myserver\myshare passwordhere /user:domain\user

 

Out of interest what is the client operating system?

Hi, Thanks for you reply, After a lot of looking i too found the same thing "net use x: \\myserver\myshare /user:domain\user" Which in turn worked fine. without needed a password as i think it then picks up from client and know its the same as the domain.

Clients are XP sp3, Upgrading to Windows 7 early next year "MAYBE"
