alan-d Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Way back when Win 2k came out there were 3 tools with which you could monitor replication traffice betwwen DCs, Network Monitor, Performance monitor and (I think) Replication Monitor. I've just had a look at our 2003 servers and can't seem to find Replication monitor. Has it gone superceeded by something else or am I just going senile and looking in the wrong place? I don't really need it - just wondered where it was

Geoff Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Ultrasound is the one you want. Make sure you run it on a beefy PC though.
alan-d Posted January 4, 2007 Author Posted January 4, 2007 http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/technologies/storage/dfs/tshootfrs.mspx Ben Thanks Plex, without looking myself, does that monitor AD replication too?
plexer Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 No idea but I would have thought so since it's the same mechanism. Just found that with a google. Ben
acb_ Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Included in the Server 2003 Resource Kit tools is checkrepl.vbs I have seen mention of ReplMon.exe being included, but I can't find it in mine :?
Geoff Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Ultrasound monitors absolutely everything. Including many things even beyond my comprehension. Disclaimer: Here be dragons.
phil_H Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 acb_ - Replmon can be found in the Windows 2003 Support Tools - On the CD look for the Support directory. You can also find it on the XPSP2 Support tools, I would stick with the Windows 2003 one though. Replmon concentrates on AD replication, but you can do a whole load of other things like checking the GPOs' status and Forcing replication between replication partners. Ultrasound though is available by separate download from MS and is for monitoring FRS replication, so Sysvol stuff (GPO's, Logon Scripts, Security Templates), and DFS Stuff......It is a bit of a beast though and requires it's own database (SQL or MSDE). For a snapshot of the FRS replication info you can use Sonar which is a Resource kit tool that is also available for separate Download from MS, but it does provide a slew of information and no documentation which is handy . But it can quickly tell you if you have issues with replication, but you need to match up the refresh rate with the times between your replication windows for it to be useful......... And from memory there are some scripts in the Branch Office deployment guide from Microsoft to help actually monitor some of this stuff. HTH P
alan-d Posted January 8, 2007 Author Posted January 8, 2007 Thanks - found it on the support tools but forgot to post
