Help with internet on my home server 2003 testing network

A lot of my time is spent on working on workstations which really what my employment role is, but as with many of you i end up being given jobs on servers which i am a little rusty at. Like most of you not much money is available for training so i have decided to set up a little test network at home with a couple of old computers. I have installed server 2003 on one computer and xp pro on another. I have installed the server as a DC with DHCP and DNS. I ave also installed RIS and successfully imaged the XP workstation. I have in DHCP configured the default gateway as my home router. When i am on the server the Internet works fine as it is going through the DG to the router. But now my XP box is joined to the domain through RIS and sitting in the default computers OU, I can log on no problem but i have no Internet on the XP PC?

 

I have doe an IPCONFIG on both server and PC and they are correct, what do i need to do/change to get internet on my XP PC?

The client machine's gateway is set to your router's address, isn't it?

You need to set your ISPs DNS server in your forwarders tab on your DNS server.

I was just about to suggest that you checked that DNS was functioning

My router does the same type of thing. If you set a simple workstation up to get its normal DNS from the router it works fine but if you try and use the router as a forwarder for a DNS server it doesnt work.

This is where i become lost, i need to read more I think as i have no idea how to do this.

 

I have netgear router connected to my broadband modem, i have checked the router config and it is set to use the broadband DNS settings but does not display them.

 

SO have not idea how to set up a forwarder and not idea where to find the DNS settings from my broadband supplier.
