Is it worth repairing a HP 4700n?

CAn someone please give me a bit of advice please? We have a HP 4700n which is around 3.5 years old. It has stopped working, we have been online to HP help assistant and done their testing and it appears it is the fuser unit or could be the motor that powers the fuser unit. We had a rough quote for a fuser unit of just over £200 with this we would have to pay a engineer to come out as well.

 

Does anyone have a idea how much an engineer costs ot whether its worth even bothering?

A new printer would cost approx £900 to £1200 depending on where you purchased it (some one may dispute these prices) but in your case I would ask the question?

 

1. Has the printer given good service in the past?

2. Have you another option in mind if you decide to scrap this printer?

3. Can you do without it?

 

I have a couple of 4600n's which are reaching 8 years service and running well so you can guess the fact they are very good work horses so I would inevitably say yes if you have the money to repair if the answer to question 1 is yes.

Why would you need an engineer? The fuser unit just fits in pretty much the same as changing a cartridge and comes with instructions. As to whether to replace it or not then financially it makes sense to replace the fuser unit.

If it's like the fuser on a 4600/3650 then you lift up the top covers undo 2 big green thumbscrews and then pull it up and out.

What if it is the motor that powers the fuser unit?
