Lego Mindstorms on RM CC3.

Hi,

 

I have just allocated the Lego Mindstorms software to some computers and have been having problems running it with a student logon. It works fine with an admin account but when a student uses it, it shows the following error:

 

'Error loading fantom.dll A dynamic link library initialization failed'

 

I know this file is in the system32 folder and that students cant access it, but I have tried creating a path rule to allow access to the file but that doesn't work either.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Have you also allowed access to the file by creating a file rule also?

 

As you have stated you have already created a path rule to the file but the users need permissions to be able to run the file.

Yeah I have done that as well but it still doesn't work.

If you change a station to No Security, reboot and try the software again, presumably it works?

 

I would hazard a guess that it tries to write something to either a temporary location or the installation folder and the Standard security settings are blocking it.

Thanks, yes that did work. Is there a way of allowing it to write to a temp location without having to remove the security setting?

If you can find out where it is trying to write to, then you should be able to dig around on RM support as there's an article about creating writeaccess.ini files to go with packages. You could then craft one to set the correct permissions on the location the software uses. Reallocate the package and the changes should kick in when you reboot!

I've found out where it's trying to write to. It's c:\documents and settings\all users

 

If I give this folder full control to student users, log off and try it with a student account it works fine. If I then restart the machine and try again, the control settings have reset themselves.

Is there a way of sorting this or will I have to use the writeaccess.ini file?

I have tried it with the writeaccess.ini and it still doesnt work. This is what I've put but I'm not sure if it is correct:

Is this the path rule that you created?

 

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users

 

If so the program must need to write to a specific folder within that Dir and therefore you must create the path rule to the exact dir that the program needs access to.

Yeah I tried that and it didn't work.

 

I have managed to get it working by allowing full control for students on this folder, but once the machine is restarted these controls go back to default.

Do you have the legacy software box ticked in their user profiles (environment tab> legacy programs enabled>ticked)?

Yes Legacy programs are enabled as well.
