[ms office - 2003] Outlook 2003/Exchange 03 After domain rename

I did AD rename domain yesterday and all went well. We just have one annoying little niggle, outlook clients.

 

They still have server.domaina.com instead of the new server.domainb.com in the exchange server name setting.

 

So if we go into Mail Control panel, and try and change it, it reverts back.

 

So i delete server.domaina.com and type in server.domainb.com click the check name button, and you see it undo my typing and put the old server address back in the box Where is it pulling this old name from? Where is it stored?

 

I did run the xrd-fixup tool for exchange and the log showed it changed all references of the old domain to the new one.

Would a brand new fresh image do the same? I ve had outlook do wierd things it shouldnt do

Odd, I know that Outlook does a DNS lookup/resolve on the name when it is entered to get the fully qualified domain name when you enter it. This is why when you enter just 'server' it will grab the FQDN.

 

I would do a DNS lookup on the servername in nslookup on the client macine to see what it returns. Also have you completed the step where you remove the secondary name (of the old domain) off the server machine. It could be picking these up and causing the issues.
