Xerox Phaser 8560

Anyone got a Xerox Phaser 8560 printer, and care to give me some honest feedback.

 

We're currently looking at buying one of these as a good quality colour printer for our Enterprise area to replace the rather old HP one we have at the moment. Never brought one of the solid ink printers before, so I'm keen to work out if there's any gotchas with it that I need to consider before buying one.

 

Also what are the running costs like compared to a traditional laser printer?

We had one from the LNL Printers for Schools scheme and were so pleased with it we got six more. They do produce beautiful prints at high quality and in ordinary mode they are very fast. I don't have running costs to hand, my boss has them, but we did work out that we'd save significantly across the printers we were replacing (which was why we chose those seven).

They are right for some people... not for others.

When it comes to vivid colour with a quality 'feel' then they are about as good as it gets. The wax on the paper makes prints stand out even on cheap paper.

However if you ever need to hot laminate your prints then they are not for you. It melts the wax.

Running costs are better than most HP's using OEM consumables, but not as good as the Kyocera C5300 for example.

 

Depending on what you print (coverage and quantity) it may also be worth looking at Xerox Pagepack contracts as they offer great value if you are printing high coverage colour.

'Green' credentials are good, since the consumables are just wax blocks with minimal packaging.

 

One piece of advice... If you do get them, do your best to never, ever turn the printer off... It has a decent powersave mode, and switching on/off triggers a cleaning cycle which wastes a fair bit of wax.
