Free DVD burning software that spans discs

I'm looking for some free DVD burning software that will also span multiple discs.

I have a 10gig .rar file that needs archiving to disc, but CDburnerXP is refusing to even start the process when I put a standard 4.7gb disc in.

 

Any ideas? Has to be free I'm afraid...

Win Rar will chop its achives up for you into smaller chunks.

Thanks for that, but mine only shows up to 700mb sizes, not DVD. It is an older version mind, maybe that's why? I could split it up, but as I have just created the archive (which took forever) I was hoping to just span across discs. I assumed (wrongly) that any modern operating system like Windows 7, would have the ability to span discs, so just created a single archive. To my dismay, it doesn't...

 

I'm copying it to my Mac Pro now and as that has Toast installed which does what I want.

The new version is free to use with nag screens.

 

There are a multitude of file splitting programs out there too.

 

Or add the already compressed file to another archive which will be quick using the new version and get it to chop it up,

Splitting a single 10gb archive over 2 DVDs which have the potential to go bad sounds like an easy way of losing a 10gb archive If you repack the existing archive with any modern archiver, you should be able to change the compression method to storage only - so it doesn't try to recompress the file just very quickly chops it up into more manageable chunks. If you're archiving something you really don't want to lose, I'd recommend creating some PAR files to go with it on each disk. You may end up using 3 DVDs to burn but at least you'll stand half a chance of getting it back when you need it!

You have probably got this sorted by now, though just word of note that the latest CDBurnerXP (4.3.5.2256) does seem to suggest that it supports spanning of data across several disks although I haven't downloaded or tried this myself yet.
