ricki Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Oh dear am having a bad day. I have downloaded the msi version of flash 10.1 from adobe to fix the security issue and have unlinked the old policy and deployed the new version and now I have loads of computers that have either the old verion, a corrupt version or no version of flash. In fact most of the school. They are coming up with errors 1612 and 1714 and is is adobe faq "Error 1714: Cannot remove older version..." or "The installation source for this product is not available..." when you install or update (Acrobat or Reader version 7.x, 8.x or 9.x on Windows) The basics of the error is it cannot uninstall the old version so the new deployed version will not install because the files are corrupt or missing. Does anyone have a deploy able fix or automated script to fix this running through all these steps on every machine is going to take ages. Richard
Cache Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 You might be able to come up with a script based on info in the admin guide: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/flash_player_admin_guide/flash_player_admin_guide.pdf - Chapter 3 has command switches for the flash player uninstaller, so maybe a batch/vbs file that will call the exe and pass the switch?
carvjo Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Hi Richard This file was built for XP - it should be deployable via logon script Download flash 10.1 install created with Prism Deploy Packager alternatively execute it on running machines with PSexec Test it to make sure it does fix your problem - when I run this on an XP machine here - that machine has Flash 10.1 installed after this has run - no matter what state flash was in before I run it.. of course your OS build may differ from mine - which why I say test it.. Hope it helps John 1
sted Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 ive found the only way to get flash to reliably install is to script it and use the removal tool 1st rem @ECHO OFF REM --- Check for an existing installation of Flash Player if exist "c:\flash100452.txt" goto _End REM --- Deploy to Windows 2000/XP/2003 "\\server\packages$\flash shock mar 10\uninstall_flash_player.exe" /s "\\server\packages$\flash shock mar 10\flash_player_10_active_x.msi" /quiet copy "\\server\packages$\flash shock mar 10\flash100452.txt" "c:\flash100452.txt" /y REM --- End of the script :_End
