Exchange 2003 - Outlook Mobile Access

Has anyone configured OMA on Exchange 2003 and got it to work with mobile clients coming in over the Internet? Further, have you used SSL with it?

 

Please tell me I don't need to set up a full Windows PKI or buy a ridiculously expensive certificate...

Some PDAs/Phones will refuse to work with self signed certificates.

 

You can get a WAP browser for testing.

try there 30 day cert and see how you go

Funnily enough , I just finished setting up our Bursars Tytan phone/PDA thing so it would access our outlook web access server while she is down in the antipodes for 6 weeks. I created a ss certificate myself using a guide that I found by googling, sadly I didnt bother to bookmark it. Was pretty straightforward though and took less than an hour if I remember correctly

When I did this the web server cert was the easy bit. The trickier bits were:

 

a) A clunky workaround for single Exchange server (no FE-BE) where you had to fiddle with the Exchange Web-folders via IISM.

 

b) Getting the cert's CA on a variety of gizmos running a variety of Windows Mobile version. Microsoft do have emulators for the last few versions which was very helpful.
