Continued Outlook PST Curruption

HI All

 

We use exchange 2003 here so it not a BIG BIG issue, but i have a user that continuously get a corrupt PST file on their Vista Laptop.

 

So Far, i have recreated the users connection on the laptop, deleted the data files and recreated, archived the old outlook files in the local profile so new are created, used the outlook repair file which worked for a few days.

 

Only other things i need to try are users profile (re-create) and rebuild the laptop.

 

Anyone else experience a continued outlook corruption? Stuck with why it would keep happening.

Could be the way the user is using the laptop? Are they always shutting down by holding the power button or leaving themselves logged on at work then taking the laptop home and using it there?

i believe the user shuts it down propper (so they say,) but its not been out off school, its a machine that left on the desk and used with our network.

Sounds strange. I use Outlook 2007 on Exchange 2003 with a Vista computer and not had a problem yet. Maybe it's lazy but my next move would be to remove/rename the local profile and recreate the Outlook connection so it pull all the emails down from the server again like a new user.

other thing would be re-do the profile so they have a new user

That would probably work but the annoying thing is why this happened in the first place. After re-creating the PST it shouldn't immediately become corrupt, there must be an underlying reason. Hard to say really. Any add-ons or third party email application interfering?

No, just an Outlook user getting emails from the Exchange

 

Vista Laptop with Office on - Dept Head so wouldnt put anything out of the ordinary on for him

Is the PST stored on the network or on the local HDD?

It's exchange so what is the PST file considering mail is supposed to stay on the server and benefit from SIS etc? An auto-archive?

Is it a Roaming User Profile and are they logging on to multiple computers and loading up Outlook on multiple computers simultaneously? I have had a couple of users who were semi-regularly having an issue with Outlook profile/pst's becoming corrupt, they haven't complained of Pst/profile problems since asking them to run Outlook only on one computer at a time - use OWA on the other.

well i think the issue was down to the user just holding the power button to switch the machine off cause they was in a rush

 

Monitoring the issue now as they will be logging off and shutting the machine down

Unfortunately this is what happens most of the time. Completely unaware that they make our lives hell!
