LosOjos Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Is it possible? I want to bulk update my September year 7's but don't seem to be able to get SIMS' bulk update routines to see them. PS - I've already asked over at SupportNet, Sivadam doesn't think it can be done, but I wanted to see if anybody here had figured out a workaround?
creese Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 If you mean Preadmission, these are in effect kept separate from the main part of SIMS. Tools and Routines available in SIMS are not available to Preadmissions (Admissions). Any amendments in bulk, if that is what you mean by Bulk Update, is not possible.

If they still don't appear, then ??? EDIT: just tried it and it didn't work. I can see a new year group that is in next years pastoral structure but it's red. No new students showing. If they still don't appear, then ??? Nope they are admitted students with an admission date in the future (September), SIMS won't show them in the bulk update routines. Another frustratingly simple feature SIMS lacks but I am hopeful that one day Capita will clear the backlog of change requests!

They are not actually admitted then, not until the admission date is reached. So still preadmission as far as SIMS is concerned.

Thanks for that, but the point still remains that I can't update them until they are on roll, therefore meaning I have to do it all last minute.
vikpaw Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I haven't thought through what i'm about to say, so feel free to shoot me down, if i screw up. Have you admitted them already? I thought that happened on the first day of school. What if you change the admission date on the pre-admission group to yesterday or today or tomorrow (whichever it will let you), that would bulk change their proposed admission date into the present, and then they may appear for bulk update. Then change it back if possible... If not, you'll just have to wait until they are admitted and add it to the Start of Year checklist.

They have all gone through as "Information not yet obtained", which means that when I (eventually) receive the ATF or CTF files, I'm going to have to manually change each one unless I blank the columns beforehand

Loads of our pupils have their lunch cycles in SIMS; we never use this information but its presence prevents me bulk updating students as leavers, meaning I must first MANUALLY delete the lunch plan and then bulk leave them. Unless anyone can think of a way around that....

There must be hundreds of duplicated requests, you can't do a proper search on them, and I'll be damned if I'm trawling through the lot of them to check my request doesn't already exist!

I'd like to vote on something that i may use in the future, as with your change request. I wont necessarily go searching for it. We shouldn't have to wait until we find something wrong or we need it, to then go hunting to see if anyone else needs the same. There should be some proactive marketing of what we want, not use begging for things to be changed.

MattMitchell Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 As far as reforming the CR system goes, I'd suggest that someone from Capita checks CRs and flags them as - Already Implemented or - Planned for XYZ release, as there a quite a few in there that have been implemented already. Maybe that would help, as would an overall list of the most and least popular CRs, across all modules, in order to see what's most/least likely to get done...

I really think that the whole of SupportNet should be revamped - I mean, come on, the site looks like something I created using Angelfire (if you remember that, you'll know how "lol" it was) back in 1999... The thing which annoys me most is the amount of errors I receive on an almost daily basis, I can't vote for that change request today as "the application encountered an error". This also happens frequently when trying to log and view existing cases and no matter what you do (use a different browser, log in/out, clear cookies) it does not resolve itself. Change requests need to be categorised in a better and clearer way and maybe have some indication to us (customers) if they are being worked on or not. Solution auditing... a lot of the solutions published are poorly written and often don't really make any sense. Old solutions are generally not updated either. Still whilst these are all great ideas, I seriously doubt that they will ever come to fruition as they simply don't make any money. 1

And yet they're still left as active on the system! And people vote for them and aren't directed to help indicating how to do what they want!

A shotlist is drawn up and voted on further until a list is drawn up in order of 'votes for' theis list is taken back to Capita where the software people work with the list to create their own list of priorities a possibilities in time scale available. At least this was the case with those i have been to. Local Autority representatives attend the meetings as they 'should' have an overview of what is most needed an viable.

They are usually advertised on SupportNet and Users can volunteer to attend! See Resource 16890 on SupportNet.
