Smarter Than You Think - I.B.M.'s Supercomputer to Challenge 'Jeopardy!' Champions - NYTimes.com

IBM has been busy again this time making a supercomputer that can play Jeopardy, this game was chosen as the questions are difficult and subtle making them much harder than anything tackled by previous natural language AIs. They have been working on it since 2007 and have got it to the point where it can beat some previous Jeopardy champions, they even intent to square it of with some in a televised event mirroring the chess challenge that IBM mounted in the past.

It works by using all sorts of language processing algorithms in parallel on its data set and then weighting these to get its result. I'm hoping they keep the progress going as I would quite like a world where the omnipresent startrek type computer is avalible to answer questions.
