ful56_uk Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 hi can you use the same wds server for xp and windows 7 deployment? or shall i used mdt for win 7? mark
plexer Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 MDT uses WDS to deploy the boot images I thought? No reason why you can't deploy multiple O/s from WDS & MDT Ben
sted Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 yes they are just images wds dosent care what they are it just serves them up as requested
tarquel Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 MDT uses WDS to deploy the boot images I thought? While they do work together, you can also use MDT by itself and run it off a workstation - with the propriate other stuff of course for PXE / network deployment....but you'd probably best using it in conjunction with WDS. But yeah, either works. Or if you really want to confuse things, add SCCM into the mix too Nath.
PEO Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 I posted this earlier http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-server-2008/58045-document-installing-wdt-2010-toolkit-setup.html#post526524 1
azrael78 Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Not so sure about this - only in as much as the WAIK for Windows 7 doesn't support doing anything to an XP or Vista (non-SP2) image I don't think - or if it DOES support XP/Vista (Pre-SP2) I never got it to work properly. It kept complaining about wrong image versions and such - so I used the Server 2008/Vista edition of the WAIK which seemed happy to handle everything up to Win 7/Server 2008R2. HTH, Az

HTH, Az in what way ive just edited quite a few xp images using the win7 waik (granted ive just being using imagex to change the key in the sysprep file) i assume by that you mean the creation of sysprep files? If so arnt they pretty much the same for vista/7 and xp so different i wouldnt expect it to deal with them direct
