SpuffMonkey Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Just wondered if anyone has worked in a school that has gone over to being an Academy? We're due to go in September and was just wondering what were the worst issues for you (from a technical & data pov rather than any political opinions)
creese Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 In this geographical area Capita SIMS is a lot more expensive for an academy.
kevbaz Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 were going through it now and its becoming a nightmare...
Sirbendy Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 we are now. Problems..none, we were still LEA when it happened. New contracts to sign IF you chose to, otherwise you could TUPE. Moved into a brand new facility, problems..minimal, non-LEA, non-BSF, self-run systems throughout. Ours went very, very smoothly..
elsiegee40 Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Just wondered if anyone has worked in a school that has gone over to being an Academy? We're due to go in September and was just wondering what were the worst issues for you (from a technical & data pov rather than any political opinions) new-style academy or old-style? The whole process for the new-style ones is a complete minefield - basically the DfE are making it up as they go along. As a governor, I'm far from happy about it and am about to go into a meeting that I expect to be difficult and lengthy where we have to decide whether or not to convert. From what I've learned so far, I shall be reluctant to do it.
SpuffMonkey Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 were going through it now and its becoming a nightmare... Would you like to expand on that? We're an existing school and not a new build - so will be transferring over on existing kit - so domain renames, email changes, existing software complaining about the first two I imagine - all on a very tight schedule in the summer - hmmm
kevbaz Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 We are also not a new build, no one knows whats going on and weve been asking critcal questions scince feb and as of yet had no answers, now weve been told one of our sponsors will host and maintain the website, opening more issues, and also the domain name transfer from swgfl cannot happen until weve opend as the academy... no decisionon the new network domain name, none of the external domain name, nothing on our staffing structure and theres more but i ant tink of at the moment Major issue is the lack of communication, were just not getting answers
