Well, thanks for all your comments.

However, returning to the original point - there are two of us in the IT Dept. We are responsible for over 500 laptops/PCs between us plus 6 servers, many dozens of printers and data projectors, smartphones, video editing, graphics work, music technology, creation and maintenance of the website...I could go on.

In short, we are very busy yet we are being forced into taking on PAT testing as well.

Argue as we might, due to general ignorance of management regarding IT and technical issues, we are getting nowhere.

 

Also, point out (if they say PAT testing) that you would need some training on how to carry out PAT testing and suggest one of the C&G Courses .. I suppose they can expect you to be competent, but if it's not in your job spec or contract to "have experience and relevant qualification for doing PAT" then they have to aid you in getting the relevant quals if they want you to do it.

In my last school the caretakers did PAT testing and in my current school they get a contractor to do it. It's never even been mentioned that me or the IT staff do it.
