End Program - SAMPLE

Evening all,

 

I would normally sit and work through various options to sort this, however time is a little against me!

 

I have a laptop which when shutting down, restarting and logging off is presenting the user with 'End Program - SAMPLE' - 'END NOW?'

 

I have confirmed it is not a virus or anything malicious, but simply something to do with the Intel Wireless device drivers for the wireless card. I have found some fixes from good old Google, however these have failed to do as stated, i.e fix it!

 

I have stopped the intel pro services, which are not required and also amended what I can from the start up etc, however, still no luck.

 

Has anyone seen this and if so, how have you managed to resolve it.

Not really had that one but did have a similar one which I could not track down so just ended up fudging it I suppose by editing the registry key "time to kill" I think its called (a few instances of it) to a smaller value. Do a Google search for it nd they will say what is a sensible value. It basically adjusts the time to auto kill the non-responding item. Laptop now shuts down quite quickley :-) Hope that helps, as I say not a fix but it worked.

That's great TechSupp, I had been looking down the reg fix route but gave up, that has worked perfectly. Fudging is the way when time is of the essence!

I had that same issue with a Dell Latitude e6400. I had used an image which I created for a laptop cart before on some other e6400's the school had purchased. Although they had purchased the same model they failed to notice they had a Dell wireless card instead of the Intel card the image had drivers installed for. So the End Program dialog kept coming up again and again at shutdown/restart until I figured out it was the Intel drivers throwing a hissy fit.
