exchange server Intelligent message filter V2

Hey all

 

Is anyone running this? Im having a bit of a problem with configuring the software, everytime i right click on the default smtp virtual server, select properties, click advanced, then click edit, then tick "apply intelligent message filter and apply Sender ID filter" and click ok, i get a SMTP configuration warning saying

 

"Sender ID filter must be configured globally on the Message Delivery property pages. Go to the message delivery object's property pages under the global settings to configure sender ID filtering".

 

Then i go to global settings, message delivery, right click and select properties, then select the intelligent message filtering tab and ive got

"block messages with an SCL rating greater than or equal to: 6"

"when blocking messages: Delete"

"Move messages with an SCL rating greater than or equal to: 5"

 

In the Sender ID filtering tab i have got:

"If sender ID validation fails, take the following action:

Reject".

 

Does all this seem properly configured? as i dont think it is as there is no Intelligent filtering connector below the Default SMTP virtual server in the SMTP protocol.

 

If anyone can let me know if this is configured right or wrong please let me know.

Sounds like it's configured properly. you don't get the little IMF connector like you did with IMF V1.

 

Just to make sure - change "when blocking messages" to archive and try sending yourself some spam. It should all be archived in \vsi 1\UceArchive (or your own SMTP queue folders).

 

IMFArchive Manager is pretty useful whilst you're getting things set up because it'll show you the archived emails (if you dropped the SCL to 1 it should catch everything.

 

once you're happy it's working again, re-set the "when blocking messages" back to delete.

 

I'm not sure if SenderID filtering is particularly useful - not a lot of people actually have the relevant DNS records to make it work, and there are (IIRC) problems with it hanging Exchange in some circumstances.

thanks, its just that i didnt know if it was set up correctly thats all, and ill lower the SCL rating to about 3 i think.
