[SIMS] DocumentStorage [Solved]

We have moved SIMS to a new server and now having problems with the document server. When we run sims on the new server it finds the new docstorage without any problem but when we try it on a desktop it says server not running, i think it is still been mapped to the old server.

 

Can you help me on to go about changing and settings to the new docstorage area?

In SIMS.net go to Tools | Setups | Document Management Server, that's where you change the mapping/settings.

Tried that, works fine on the server but not on desktops

The only thing that links the desktops to the server is the Sims.ini and the connect.ini. Have you checked those?

Advice

Change the path of docstorage to a physical drive as follows:

 

1. At the document server machine select a dos command prompt

 

2. Change the drive to point to the drive where document server is installed e.g C:\

 

3. Type cd\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net Document Server and press enter

 

4. Type dmconfig and press enter

 

5. This will display the dmconfig settings

e.g

 

C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net Document Server>dmconfig

Current server configuration:

Protocol: http

Port: 8080

Directory: C:\DOCSTORAGE

 

6. Type dmconfig /D D:\DOCSTORAGE (to change to D:\drive)

 

7. Press enter (note: document server service will need to be restarted for this to take effect)

 

8. Copy the contents of the existing docstorage folder to the new docstorage folder.

 

9. restart the document server service in control panel | admin tools | services.

The only thing that links the desktops to the server is the Sims.ini and the connect.ini. Have you checked those?

If the server is working then so should the workstations, have you checked the name and the ports. Check that the server is allow remote access on the port and check that the workstations can see the server and that there is not a DNS issue

Have you changed the name of the server in the DOCSTORAGE folder to the new machine.

 

Also on the server, open a DOS prompt and navigate to C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net Document Server then type dmconfig and press enter, this will tell you where docstorage thinks the folder should be, this will also tell you the port and protocol, make sure that this matches your network protocol access on the new SIMS install
