Sync local drive to network share

Our staff all have a laptop. Their My Documents used to be redirected to their network share, but with WIndows 7 we have changed that and redirected it to their local D: Partition. The majority of our staff do most of their work off the network.

 

We dont run sharepoint or anything like that. At the moment Im triallying the MS Sync Toy, and although it works it requires running manually and isnt simple to mass deploy and set up..

 

Whats the best way to auto-sync their D: drives back to their network share when they are back on the network.

Robocopy setup to mirror back only changes in the logon script may work well. It can check for only the differences and bash through a copy quite quickly from one location to another. The logon script will only run if they are connected to the network so that should work alright.

i use offline files never had a problem with it.

just config up a GPO all sweet..

 

and set to sync at logon and shut down.

and set not to sync large files and temp files like AVI, MPG, tmp, MOD(Flip cams) and so on.

Yea, offline files is pretty good in Windows 7, it does bog down a bit when confronted with 2GB video files but I have seen it hapilly keep 40+GB in sync without incident.

We use offline files as well. We have drummed it into staff not to put large files in home areas so that isnt much of an issue.

Cheers. So can you set up offline files just to do the my documents folder?

 

Our staff our pretty good to keep their itunes stuff in My Music, and videos in My Videos, whihc in win7 are not sub folders of My Documents, so setting up Offline Files for My Docs will seem to be a good idea.

 

Will look into it.
