Exchange mail question

I can't see a mail forum so I'm putting this here. I'm temporarily in charge of our mail server while the usual tech is on holiday and I only have a very basic understanding of how it works. I have been asked to check if some messages arrived on our server with the domain name name correct but the with the recipient name incorrect. Using the Bad Mail filter in message tracking I can see undeliverable mail but I can't see the recipient name that was used. Can anyone tell me how to find it

The only way I have found to do this is to check the log files above. Send yourself a message and then sort the contents of that folder by date modified to get the latest one. Then run a search in notepad to look for the incorrect address that you are looking for.

 

If anyone else has a better way I would be very interested to hear it!!

make sure you copy the latest txt file as it will probably be in use for that day and wont open in notepad.

The only thing is I know my tech has a fairly straightforward way of doing it - I just forgot to ask him before he went on holiday and we have an issue with some pupils who applied for visas for a school trip and didn't put their correct school email address on the form (john.Smith@...... instead of 05john.smith@...). Now the teacher isn't sure if the visa application has gone through but the reply has gone astray or if there was a problem with the application. Obviously the embassy concerned aren't bothered about checking their mail logs for our returned mail. (The teacher now admits it was a daft idea to let them use their own email for the applications and it shouldn't happen again)

Well that's the only way I have ever found to do it! I'd be interested to hear if your tech tells you the other way when he returns!!! Sorry I can't be more help
