[SIMS] Join server to new domain

At present our SIMS server is on the LA's domain so they can maange SOLUS updates, which has been fine up until recently..

 

Last few updates that have come out have failed because of issues relating to connections to the SIMS server.

 

All Staff are a member of an AD group that has Full control over the C:\Program Files\SIMS folder so that updates can be installed without admin approval, and an S: drive successfully mapped using a generic set of credentials to the SIMS Server

 

Now, the updates keep throwing up a dialog asking for credentials to connect to the SIMS Server despite them having a successful connection via the S: Drive..

 

So my question is this:

 

Can I simply disjoin the SIMS Server from the LA's domain and then join it to our own domain (recreating necessary ACL's as needed) without causing SIMS to cark it and collapse?

At my last place when we created a new domain all we did was simply take it out of one domain and put it into the other. No problems with it at all

That was my experience about 5 years ago when we merged domains - remove from admin domain, make part of new joint domain, amend ACLs as necessary.

Thanks guys - just wanted to confirm that that was all that was needed so might do it over Half Term..

Ours have never worked automatically - I used to run them manually but my boss is of the opinion that as we pay the LA to do it, let them do it. Now if it is an update that we need for some reason I do it myself, if not I just wait until they get around to updating it manually.

Well we have had problem after problem with our LA and SIMS, so doubt our SLT will have nay issues with us removing them from the equation..

Though may need to give them a link to run SOLUS as SIMS looks to the LA's SOLUS server for updates rather than to Capita...

but at least then they will need to let me know in advance since the link will not be permanent!

we manage our own updates etc but out server looks to the lea's solus they approve the update/patch send us an email and we apply it.
