NTP through isa 2004

Hi,

 

we are trying to sync our pdc with an internet time server, (time.windows.com). Weve got port 123 udp opened from our ISP and set up the PDC however it still doesnt seem to synchronise, we have an ISA 2004 in between the internal and internet so i think to problem lies with this.

 

are there any tools you reccommend i can try to test the open port/test isa allows access to the open port/can see the time server etc.. ???

try downloading Nmap and use that to scan the ports

You will want to add an access rule that allows only the NTP protocol with the source set to the DC and the destination set to external networks. This should allow the DC to talk to the internet based time server.

 

You could also just add it to the rule that allows clients internet access and try it from any client machine. I think that XP SP2 and above had a button in the clock settings to tell it to check an internet time source. I know Vista and 7 do.

A machine on the domain this is removed as the machine will get its time from any domain controller afaik.
